Statutory Assessments

What Is a Statutory Assessment?
Statutory assessments are national tests and teacher assessments that take place at key points during your child’s time in primary school. They are designed to check your child’s progress in core subjects like English and maths, and help schools understand how well pupils are learning.
These assessments include:
  • Reception Baseline Assessment (start of Reception year)
  • Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
  • Key Stage 1 SATs (Year 2)
  • Multiplication Tables Check (Year 4)
  • Key Stage 2 SATs (Year 6)

Results are shared with parents and used to support your child’s learning journey. They also help schools and the government ensure that children are receiving a high standard of education.
